Passed your theory test? The practical driving exam at Regitra is the final step to a Lithuanian licence — and the one that makes most people nervous. Knowing how it is structured takes a lot of the pressure off. Here is what to expect.
Before you can book it
You must have passed the theory test first. Remember that a theory pass stays valid only until you complete the practical exam, and no longer than one year — so it is worth booking your practical in good time rather than leaving a long gap.
How the exam is run
The practical is taken in a car with a Regitra examiner assessing you. It generally has two parts:
- Vehicle control and manoeuvres — things like moving off safely, controlled stops, reversing, parking, turning the car around and a hill start.
- Driving in real traffic — a route through public roads where the examiner watches your observation, lane discipline, speed, priority decisions and general road awareness.
The examiner gives directions as you go; you are not expected to know a fixed route. Expect the drive to last roughly half an hour, and you will normally get your result at the end.
What examiners most often mark you down for
- Weak observation — not using mirrors or checking blind spots before moving, turning or changing lanes
- Getting priority and right-of-way wrong at junctions and roundabouts
- Driving too fast for the conditions, or so hesitantly that it disrupts traffic
- Rolling back on hill starts or clipping kerbs during manoeuvres
Booking, fees and retakes
You book the practical exam through Regitra’s online system, where you can also reschedule. A separate exam fee applies — check the current amount on Regitra before you pay. If you do not pass, you can register and try again; the fee applies each time, so a little extra preparation usually pays for itself.
On the day — a quick checklist
- Bring a valid identity document.
- Arrive early and unhurried — nerves cause most avoidable mistakes.
- Do your mirror checks deliberately and visibly.
- Drive at a steady, confident pace and commit to your decisions.
